Google working with National Security Agency

"Google has reportedly turned to the NSA for help in improving its security infrastructure to help prevent further cyber attacks"

Google is now teaming up with the National Security Agency to help fight cyber attacks that have happened in the past couple years. I believe that this is very intellectual, strategic idea. Many people are worried that they are going to lose their privacy on the Internet but that is not the case. The point of Google and the NSA teaming up is not to spend their time snooping through peoples e-mails and getting involved in their personal life. The strategy for this is to put an end to cyber attacks and to simply monitor the Internet and keep what needs to be protected, protected. In this article it is stated “Google is reportedly hoping that the NSA will be able to help Google understand how its infrastructure was compromised, and develop methods to prevent similar intrusions.” This is their main goal for these two teaming up together, not invasion of privacy.

“In December, Google disclosed that it and 20 other U.S. companies were the victims of cyber attacks that originated in China. Google has said some of its intellectual property was stolen during the attacks, and the company is considering pulling its operations out of China over the attacks. “ Google and the NSA are getting together to prevent things like that incident from happening again. Google does not want the risk of losing more software and integrity due to cyber attacks from other jealous countries such as China. I believe this idea will help benefit Google and other U.S companies will soon jump on board in order to secure their companies and their customers/users. In the scandal with Chine it was found that the cyber attacks were happening to access Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. This put these activists in harms way and that is what Google does not want to happen ever again. They are putting together their technology with the NSA to provide more feelings of security for those that use Google and things such as Gmail.

The biggest problem that seems to be arising from this decision to team together is still what I mentioned above, the feeling of intrusion by the NSA to the Google users. In reality, yes it is true that if they really wanted to, they could read all of your emails and see all of the illegal websites you are searching along with illegal music you are downloading. The newsflash is, that would simply just be a waste of their time. They are looking to stop a bigger issue and that is what people need to realize. If people are against this idea solely for the reason “lack of privacy” then you are clearly embarrassed of what you are doing on the Internet and you probably should not be doing it anyway. NSA and Google together I believe will truly benefit improving the security infrastructure to better our online experience and keep out cyber attacks
